Stellies, a point away from DDC glory

Stellenbosch FC have put one hand on the DStv Diski Challenge trophy after beating Maritzburg United 4-2 on Saturday in game week 29.

The victory took the Capetonians to 61 points on the log, while title contenders SuperSport United have 59 points after thrashing Golden Arrows 4-1.

In the last match, a draw will be enough for the Stellies due to their better goal difference.

“It’s so close, yet so far. Just one step closer, we have to stay calm, go back home, recover, take a break, regenerate and come back to work. We just got to stay humble and focus on the next one. God-willing, we’ll get our massive reward,” Evangelos Vellios said.

“The journey has been so beautiful; I pray for the boys to stick together. One more week to go, one more time. I believe in them like I believed the whole season. I pray we come out on top of this one.”

Vellios warned his side not to take the Rockets lightly in their last match as they are an excellent tricky side.

“We just got to stay humble and focus on the next one. TS Galaxy is such a good team with such a good coach, really been impressed with them this season,” he added.

Stellenbosch wraps up the season against the Rockets, whilst Matsatsantsa will travel to Royal AM. Both matches will be played on 14 May; kick-off is at 10:00.
