Tensions rise in AmaZulu dressing room as Truter, players are at crossroads

Brandon Truter’s future with AmaZulu is in doubt, with tensions rising in the club’s dressing room as the coach and players are at crossroads.

Sources close to FARPost have claimed that relations between Truter and his players at Usuthu have become toxic.

And the club’s management have summoned the coach to a meeting recently due to AmaZulu’s decline in form in the DStv Premiership.

TROUBLE IN PARADISE?

The KwaZulu-Natal outfit are without a win in their last four league games. However, Truter will continue to mastermind AmaZulu’s campaign in the MTN8, knowing his future as the club’s coach rests on how his troops’ run in the top eight tournament.

Usuthu started the new season like a house on fire, and they were favourites to challenge for the first Q-Innovation, but a loss against their biggest rivals Golden Arrows, put that in danger.

That KZN Derby defeat was followed by two more league losses to Chippa United and Mamelodi Sundowns, then a draw to Chiefs.

Despite winning against Cape Town City in the MTN8 quarter-final, FARPost has been reliably informed that Usuthu management are not happy and a potential candidate to take over from Truter is already on standby.

WHAT IS GOING ON?

According to insiders in the camp, there is a section of players that are not happy with the arrival of Virgil Vries, which has resulted in divisions in the squad, hence the delay in signing the goalkeeper.

“The team has tried to hide divisions within the team, but things have gotten worse, and some players are not happy,” revealed a source.

“There’s been a meeting to discuss the development and recent run. The president [Sandile Zungu] is unhappy, and the coach is in danger.”

Another insider stated that the AmaZulu have decided not to sign Vries, and Truter is facing a do-or-die situation as he has to win the MTN8 to avoid being sacked.

Former Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids is waiting in the wings, as he has submitted his profile.

“Coach Brandon is indeed in danger; there is so much going on. The club wants to challenge for league honours. The MTN8 is one trophy that can save him right now,” added the insider.

“Fadlu has been meeting with the club; he was another option before Truter took over.”

AmaZulu will face Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN8 semi-final over two legs. The first leg will be staged at FNB Stadium on the 1st of October.

And the return leg will be played at Moses Mabhida Stadium three weeks later, with a possibility of Usuthu playing that game under a new coach.
