Tinkler ‘surprised’ Pyramids accepted Lakay price tag

Eric Tinkler has revealed that Cape Town City tried to retain the services of Fagrie Lakay but, in the end, realised that the offer from Egyptian outfit Pyramids was too good to turn down.

Lakay recently joined Pyramids, but the club did not reveal the contract duration and move fee. But according to Tinkler, Pyramids paid good money for the Bafana Bafana striker.

“Losing Fagrie is a massive loss to the club. It didn’t help us that we lost him very late in the window as well,” said Tinkler.

“We tried keeping him at the club by inflating his price, and we were very surprised when they accepted the price tag we put on him.”

The Citizens coach also opened up about the club’s January transfer dealings. “We can reflect on the other players we lost, but we lost our top scorer in Fagrie and our top assist maker in Surprise Ralani, and we have to look to replace those players,” he said.

“We have managed to find a winger in Venezuelan international, Darwin Gonzalez, but we are still looking to find a replacement for Fagrie,” concluded the CT City tactician, who also lost Abbubaker Mobara and Dove Edmilson.
