Usuthu ready to crush CT City Champions League hopes

AmaZulu defender Tapelo Xoki believes they have to pedigree to stop Cape Town City’s unbeaten run in 2022 when the two sides clash in the Mother City on Saturday. However, the Cape Town-born defender, Xoki, admits it will be a difficult match as they face in-form City at the DHL Stadium.
But, the motivation for Usuthu, he says, is twofold. The Durban side wants to finish in the top eight and preserve their unbeaten run since Brandon Truter took over on an interim basis. Xoki is confident that his side has got what it takes to cause an upset in his home city and claim maximum points.
City and Usuthu are second and seventh on the DStv Premiership with a points tally of 48 and 40 respectively.
“We have to go there with a positive mindset to try and get maximum points. It’s not going to be easy. They are a team on form. They are scoring many goals and don’t concede much as well, so it’s not going to be an easy encounter. We need to convert the chances we get,” Xoki said.
“It’s a huge one; they are at an advantage, so the pressure is on them. We are trying to catch up with the rest of the group, but for us to be where we are, we have to beat teams in and around us.”
The 27-year-old believes their strong and firm defence, which is yet to concede under Brandon Truter, will play a huge part in terms of helping the team get the much-needed three points.
“We want to be a hard team to beat; we’ve shown that; that’s what we are. Two more games to go. If we keep more clean sheets then, defensively, it would have been our best season since the club has been around,” he added.
“It would be a huge achievement to the group, and it’s something that we do as a team, not defence only, but the guys from upfront with our counter-pressing, with our shape. It’s something we pride ourselves on as a team; we have to continue in the next two games.” Kickoff at DHL Stadium is at 15:00.
