Villa aiming to push Sundowns in title chase

Sibusiso Vilakazi has tipped TS Galaxy to push his former club Mamelodi Sundowns in the title chase.

Galaxy have started the DStv Premiership like a house on fire, collecting seven points out of a possible nine in three games played.

The Rockets opened the season with a goalless draw against AmaZulu followed by an emphatic 1-0 victory against the defending champions before brushing aside another Pretoria outfit SuperSport United at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday.

The 32-year-old attacker believes his team has all it takes to compete for trophies and even push Masandawana to the wire in the league championship.

“Coming from the other side [Sundowns], our season, we speak about trophies each and every time. There’s no other language that we understand than winning games.

“Having to come to a side where no one gives you a chance, what more way to express yourself and seek attention? You can only start seeking attention when you’re winning games and playing good football.

“You can only get that attention if you start putting trophies in front of you. As I said, why not with this team, we’ll prove it to ourselves first, then the rest will take care of itself,” the former Bidvest Wits star told the media.

After the highly anticipated move for Bongani Zungu back to the South African elite league, the 2014/15 Footballer of the Season welcomed the move and reckons he’ll add a lot of value to the league.

“He’s a very exciting player. I used to enjoy his football when we were together in the national team. I used to feed from his game in terms of passing, grinding and his thinking in the middle of the park. I mean, he’s an exceptional player.

“I’m anticipating the new Bongani, who I’m looking forward to playing against. Hopefully, if it happens, we can meet in the cup final or towards the end of the season where by it’s a title decider,” added the Soweto-born star.

The Brazilians have been a dominant figure in the PSL which saw them win five league titles in a row, coupled with domestic cups.
