We need to build up for the final: Malesela

Marumo Gallants coach Dan Malesela has called on his charges to use the remaining DStv Premiership games to build up for the Nedbank Cup final.

Gallants have not been in their best form in the league in recent weeks, with their last win in the DStv Premiership coming on the 6th of March. On Saturday, they played a goalless draw against Golden Arrows at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, which leaves them in 11th place.

Nonetheless, Malesela says they can’t be too hard on themselves about missing a top-eight spot. They have escaped the relegation axe and secured a place in the Nedbank final in which they play Mamelodi Sundowns.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa have picked three draws and two losses from their last five games.

“I am glad we had shots at goal, and we created chances, as opposed to some games where we did not create more than five chances. But with this game we created, we could have scored four or five goals. Unfortunately, we couldn’t score,” Malesela said.

“It’s a good build-up to the next matches and a good build-up to the final.”

Gallants face TS Galaxy and Sekhukhune in their remaining league fixtures before taking on recently crowned league champions Sundowns in the Nedbank final on 28 May.

“I know we shouldn’t be selfish; we have got the Nedbank [final] and got ourselves out of the relegation, so I believe we should be patient, and we still have something to play for this season.”
