Why Sundowns need to tread carefully against Sekhukhune

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi insists the reigning DStv Premiership champions will tread carefully when they take on a formidable Sekhukhune United side on Saturday.

Babina Noko will host Masandawana in a much-anticipated encounter at Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane, at 15:00.

Sundowns are two points above Sekhukhune at fifth position while the Limpopo-based side are in ninth position.

“They have not started very well this season but they have played very well. Unfortunately, in their match against Richards Bay they could have easily scored five goals,” said Mngqithi ahead of the match.

“They created very good chances in that match so it’s people that you cannot take for granted. People that are working very hard. They have employed the services of some of the best strikers in the country in Letsoalo, Mabasa and unfortunately, Morris is suspended for this match.

“It is a bit of a banana skin that needs us to tread very carefully because they are a very formidable side. I think they are strong on set pieces; I think they are strong with their crossing game,” he said.

Mngqithi has also paid homage to the Sundowns supporters who have come out in numbers since the reopening of the stadiums in South Africa.

“I think I must thank the yellow nation for the support that they are giving us because ever since the stadiums are being opened it has looked very good. In Cape Town in our first match, we had a decent crowd away from home and it felt like we are playing at home.

“Against Kaizer Chiefs, I think I saw the rise of the yellow nation to the level that one would want to keep for the longest time and one would really wish the yellow nation can continue to support us,” added Mngqithi.

“Be it we are playing away be it we are playing at home. We would like to have those decent crowds because they drive us and we really appreciate their presence at the stadium.”
