Williams headache for Tembo

Supersport United coach Kaitano Tembo is concerned that his captain Ronwen Williams can only link up with the team on Friday shortly before they travel to Durban for their Premiership encounter against Golden Arrows.

Williams guarded goals as Bafana Bafana were trounced 5-0 by France on Tuesday. The national team arrived in Johannesburg on Thursday at 10 am after travelling overnight from Paris, France, and Williams took the rest of the day resting.

Williams, a product of the Tshwane side’s academy, has started all games but three this season, and his experience remains essential for Tembo’s youthful squad.

“We have four players still away on international duty. They can only link with us on Friday, and we play on Saturday. We need to travel to Durban later on Friday after our training session. It will be difficult as we have a thin squad,” Tembo said.

Tembo hinted he would put his faith in youngsters.

“Some of our young players will be called up to be part of the matchday squad on Saturday. They are improving gradually in every game. It benefits them in terms of gaining experience,” he added.

The SuperSport coach stated the key to grabbing maximum points saying they have to focus.

“Arrows are high on confidence, especially after their last game against Kaizer Chiefs. We have to go there with the right attitude and mentality to fight for maximum points. We’ll be ready for them.”

SuperSport and Arrows are in seventh and eleventh position on the log, respectively. The Pretoria side has amassed 30 points while Abafana Bes’thende are just two points adrift. Victory for either side will boost their chances of finishing in the top eight. Kick-off at Princess Magogo Stadium is at 19:30.
