Middendorp bemoans Maritzburg’s lack of concentration

Maritzburg United coach Ernst Middendorp rued his side’s lack of concentration against Orlando Pirates on Tuesday as they were thumped 4-1 away from home.

The German mentor believes his charges came out second best on the pitch throughout the match.

“Our main issue was definitely not being on the field; the body was in there, mindset as you have to be if you want to be competitive in the duels, particular in midfield, defensive side we haven’t been showing any energy, always second,” said Middendorp.

“We lost many game situations and challenges, then, of course, you are immediately in the next line in a difficult position. I could see there was some quiet emptiness from the beginning, from the start, from a number of players Keagan Ritchie for example, was the man of the match on Saturday, played fantastic, but today he was one step late; Lucky Baloyi the same. There were number of players that were not able to put our performance onto the field as we’ve seen on Saturday.”

The 63-year-old singled out a 1-0 victory against relegated Baroka as their season’s highlight.

“I think the season highlight for us was Saturday, to win the game, to be productive, staying on the league, make sure not putting it to the last game. Anywhere at the end of the season, we have met our target, secured our PSL status, and now it’s all about looking forward and make the right decisions,” he concluded.
