Mngqithi demands outright wins as Downs chase 71-point mark

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi is demanding outright wins in the remaining five games of the DStv Premiership as they look to surpass the 71 points record set by former boss Pitso Mosimane.

The Al Ahly coach guided Sundowns to the record-setting tally when they won the league in 2015/16. While the Brazilians are comfortably at the top, with 57 points, Mngqithi wants them to wrap it up in style

“Our benchmark for last season was 67 points, and if we can improve on that, it will be good for us,” Mngqithi told the media.

“But the biggest benchmark that Sundowns has achieved is 71 points, and to get to that means we must win all our remaining matches.”

“So, that is the direction we want to take, that is the mentality we have, to try to compete against ourselves.”

Masandawana’s remaining fixtures are Cape Town City (H), Sekhukhune United (A), Kaizer Chiefs (A), Stellenbosch FC (H)and Royal AM (A).
