Former Wits Women’s Football mentor Nthabeleng Modiko has confirmed that she has joined the Hollywoodbets Super League side University of Johannesburg (UJ) as the assistant coach.
Nthabeleng Modiko took to socials to reveal the news: “Deal complete. The greatest opportunity for me to be working with the legends of the institution especially to learn from Coach Anna Monate and be under her leadership,” she wrote on her official Twitter account.
“I couldn’t ask for better. And yes, I’m happy to be back home.”
‘Dunga’, as she’s affectionately known within football cycles, played for UFS Kovsies, and Bloemfontein Celtics Ladies before joining UJ back in 2008.
She amassed 30 caps for Banyana Banyana and was the captain of the side when they won a bronze medal at the African Women Cup of Nations in 2010.
Nthabeleng Modiko also earned 52 caps for the USSA team, participated in three World Student Games, and won three CUCSA Games.
In her coaching career, she was once in charge of Modiko United Killers from Kroonstad, the DeafSA soccer team that participated in the World Deaf Championships in Greece in 2008, and joined Wits in 2017.
The Kroonstad-born retired footballer come highly recommended as she recently completed her Caf C License to add to her BCom Accounting degree from the University of Free State (2007) and a National Diploma in Banking from the University of Johannesburg (2011).
