Mosimane’s Ahly to transport fans to Champions League final

Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly have made a decision to transport fans from Cairo to Casablanca, Morocco where the Caf Champions League final against Wydad AC takes place next week on Monday.

Ahly have made it clear they are unhappy about Caf’s decision to have the final in a venue that is not neutral. Wydad will enjoy home advantage as the game is set for their home city Casablanca.

Ahly’s board, headed by president Mahmoud El Khatib, held their meeting on Sunday at the club’s main premises and decided to proceed with the case take to Court of Arbitration for Sport [CAS] regardless of its future consequences.

The club said the move is aimed at “promoting justice aside from any unreal rumours of disputes with other clubs that we have good relations with, especially since Caf did not respond to our legitimate demands that we sent four days ago.”

Further to that, the defending African champion will fund the fans’ one-day trips to Morocco with 3,000 EGP [R2600] per person. “In coordination with the national tourism companies, Lucky Tours and Master Travel who are assigned to organise the trips of our fans to attend the Caf Champions League final. The club would like to thank Dr Ashraf Sobhy, the Egyptian minister of youth and sports, for approving the payment of the funds from the club’s budget,” Ahly said on its website.
