Manchester United have confirmed that forward Cristiano Ronaldo will not feature in their tonight’s league clash against Liverpool after the passing of his baby boy.

The Red Devils are set to face their rivals at Anfield with the kick-off scheduled for 21:00.

“Family is more important than everything and Ronaldo is supporting his loved ones at this immensely difficult time,” read the club’s official statement.

“As such, we can confirm that he will not feature in the match against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday evening and we underline the family’s request for privacy.

“Cristiano, we are all thinking of you and sending strength to the family.”

The Portuguese star was not at Carrington this morning as his teammates arrived at the training base to prepare for tonight’s showdown.
