Pirates humiliate Leopards in eight-goal thriller at Mbombela

Orlando Pirates claim all three points after crashing Royal Leopards 6-2 in their Caf Confederation Cup group stage clash at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday night.

The Eswatini side started the match on top, finding the back of the net twice in just eight minutes of the half.

Leopards opened the scoring through Mzwandile Mabelesa in the fifth minute.

Just three minutes after the restart, Thabiso Mokenkoane added to the scoreline for the visitors.

As the first period wore on, things took a U-turn, with Pirates coming out guns blazing.

In the 20th minute, Bucs pulled one back, thanks to Machawe Dlamini’s own goal.

Eight minutes before the half-time break, Bandile Shandu, who scores goals for fun nowadays netted an equaliser for the Soweto giants.

The Sea Robbers took their advantage on the stroke of half-time when Kwame Peprah scored the third goal to put his side in front.

The Showpiece went into the interval with Leopards trailing behind by 3-2.

A mouthwatering second half, saw Pirates toiling with the visitors, as Happy Jele also registered his name on the scoresheet.

Edwin Matsebula’s men had been totally floored when it comes to ball position as they were searching the ball with a torch.

The intensity and pace grew drastically from the Happy People and showed no sign of slowing down. Kabelo Dlamini made 5-2 in the 60th minute and Terence Dzvukamanja made sure that he put the last nail in the coffin as he also found the back of the net.

After an eventful match, it was a good performance from Pirates who came back from behind to secure a vital win.
