Pirates want it more, declares Davids ahead of Caf final

Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids reckons the club wants to win the Caf Confederation Cup final to finish their underwhelming season on a high.

The Buccaneers are preparing for Friday’s showdown against RS Berkane in Uyo, Nigeria, after sailing through 2-1 on aggregate at the expense of Libya’s Al Ahli Tripoli.

“One aspect is the team that wants it more, tactically is very important how the game plays out, how we manage emotions in certain areas of the pitch, sometimes we are going to be under pressure and sometimes we are going to be on top.

“A clear example is our previous match 2-0 against Al Ahly Tripoli away, and you go into the match [second leg] playing at home, wanting to attack, and you play against a team that has nothing to lose; that’s where I spoke of managing emotions, in our previous game we couldn’t do that, not being able to play our normal football,” Davids said.

“In the second half it was better, where we were able to go into our structure, we are position based style, and in the second half, it showed that we able to play quick still, still play at the pace and also being able to retain the ball,” added the 40-year-old coach.

The Sea Robbers will face 2019/20 Caf Confederation Cup winner RS Berkane of Morocco in a match that could decide the future of the two coaches at the helm after they missed out on the MTN8, Netbank Cup and DStv Premiership on the local front.

Kickoff for the highly anticipated Caf Confederation Cup final at Godswill International Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, between Orlando Pirates and RS Berkane will be at 21:00, Friday the 20th of May.
