Rooney quits Derby

Derby County manager Wayne Rooney has made a shocking decision regarding his future at the club.

The former Manchester United striker has asked to be “relieved of his duties with immediate effect”, adding to the many problems that the club has been facing since last season.

Derby were placed under administration by England’s football governing body and they got relegated to the third division after finishing in 23rd spot in the 2021/22 Championship log standings.

In a shocking letter to the club’s management, Rooney expressed his desire to leave his role as the first team head coach.

“I feel the club now needs to be led by someone with fresh energy and not affected by events that have happened over the last 18 months,” he explained.

The former Everton star said he leaves the club with a heavy heart after the beautiful memories he made at the club, saying that he enjoyed his time at Pride Park.

“My time at the club has been a rollercoaster of emotions, both highs and lows, but I have to say that I have enjoyed the challenge.

“I will remember my time at Derby with great pride and affection and would like to thank all my staff, players and of course the fans for their incredible support. I will never forget you and hope to see you all again in the near future and in happier times.”
