Schalkwyk backs Arthur Zwane for Chiefs top job

Former Kaizer Chiefs star Gert Schalkwyk believes his former teammate Arthur Zwane is the right man for the job at Naturena.

This comes after head coach Stuart Baxter was sacked last week following a string of bad results, and Zwane was handed the reins till the season ends.

“For me, I think they made the right decision to give him the interim coach job. He has produced a lot of good youngsters in the Diski Challenge. It’s a great opportunity for him,” Schalkwyk told Central News.

“I hope they keep him as a head coach because we need fresh ideas, he knows the culture of Kaizer Chiefs.”
The 40-year-old believes it’s about time the club changes their approach when hiring coaches.

“It’s about time they give young coaches a chance. He has done well even in Caf Champions League last season when he was the interim coach. I would like to say, congratulations to Arthur [Zwane].

Schalkwyk went on to back Zwane to take Amakhosi back to its glory.

“I think he can take the team to its former glory, he knows the culture of Kaizer Chiefs. He was a player, he knew how to win trophies as well. For me, it will be the best decision Chiefs would have done for now. For me, he is the right choice,” Schalkwyk concluded.
