Sekgobela keeping his football dream alive

Former Polokwane City midfielder Kopano Sekgobela and Tshiamo Agency are continuing to make sure upcoming youngsters get a chance to become professional football players.

In the past weekend, Tshiamo Agency held another successful tournament in Ga-Mathabatha in Polokwane for youngsters to showcase their skills to scouts.

“The tournament was successful; everything went according to our plan. We aim to improve our standards competition-by-competition so that these boys get better opportunities as early as possible.,” Sekgobela, who now uses a wheelchair, told FARPost.

“The tournament was different this time around; we had scouts from DStv Diski Challenge teams, Baroka and Marumo Gallants. It was open for everyone to participate so that any good player no matter the age group can get an opportunity to go professional if scouted.”

The 31-year-old revealed that the plan is to host these tournaments to create more opportunities for youngsters regularly.

“I wish we could do these football tournaments after every two months so that the boys get exposure. If everything goes well and according to plan, we’ll host another competition in June/July.”

“I think many people with a passion for football and grooming youngsters should venture into football academies and agencies. This will improve the quality of players in our country,” Sekgobela added.

The retired player and his Polokwane teammates were involved in an accident which ended his career in 2012. The team bus was rushing to an impromptu meeting which Jonny Mogaladi called following Rise and Shine’s National First Division (NFD) match against FC AK on that day.

Khomotso Mpakatesane, Moeketsi Nthete, Mojalefa Mphuthi and Koketso Takalo are the four players who sadly lost their lives in the fatal accident.
