Seoposenwe eager for impactful Banyana return

Banyana Banyana frontwoman Jermaine Seoposenwe has set her sights on becoming one of the best on the continent with some stellar performances for South Africa at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) scheduled for Morocco in July.

Seoposenwe has been instrumental for her side Sporting Braga, as she helped them to win the 2021/22 Portuguese Women’s League Cup title not so long ago.

The 28-year-old Cape Town-born netted eight goals and weighed in five assists for Braga this season.

She is now seeking to carry her good form to the AWCON tournament after three years of absence in the Banyana squad and hoping to follow in the footsteps of compatriots – Noko Matlou and Thembi Kgatlana to win the African best gong at the continent’s showpiece.

The speedy forward believes that her consistent form with Braga propels Banyana to AWCON success.

“I hope what I’m doing in my team could snowball into the national team but I also know that when the environment is not right, I also know it’s very hard to bring that forward. I want to be my authentic self everywhere,” she said.

“You know the positive working environment that is conducive for you to be the success. And that you ultimately believe what you can be and then have to get that replicated everywhere. It’s not easy, but when I try and do that, then try and be the best version of myself, hopefully, I can kind of replicate that form.

“I have had issues that kept me away from the national team. I also think being away from the national team has helped me, I think I haven’t been impressing as I should be mentally and physically. The national teams have created ups and downs for me, which I don’t want for my life.

“However, I hope I can help my national team the best way I can to win the elusive trophy we’ve been trying to get for many years. That’s definitely the goal.”
