Betway Premiership side Stellenbosch FC has announced the contract extension for head coach Gavin Hunt. Hunt took over at the club from Steve Barker in December 2025, with the club rooted in the relegation zone.
The 61-year-old guided the club to a ninth-place finish, missing out on a spot in the MTN8 by just two points. As a result of pulling the team away from the relegation zone and putting them within fighting distance of a top-eight finish, the club rewarded the veteran coach with a new two-year deal, keeping him at the helm until 2028.
On Tuesday, the club released an official statement expressing their immense satisfaction with Hunt’s leadership and tactical direction.

Meanwhile, Hunt, who has taken charge of more than 1000 top-flight matches in South African football, also expressed his delight with the show of confidence from Stellies’ management. “I’m very excited about the project we’re building at Stellenbosch FC. This is a fantastic club with fantastic facilities and is very professionally run.”

The veteran mentor went on to lay down a bold marker for the upcoming season. He stated that his primary objective is to ensure Stellies are back to consistently compete for silverware.
“The staff, whom I inherited on my arrival, have been very welcoming and supportive towards me, and we share a fresh and positive outlook for the future,” added Hunt.
“You can never forget what has happened in the past, when the club was very successful under the previous coaching regime. We want to get back up to that place where we can be competitive again.
“It’s not going to be easy. It’s not going to happen overnight. But we have a chance to rebuild the team, and I’m happy to have been entrusted with that responsibility.”
Gavin Hunt is a four-time league champion. He won three titles with SuperSport United and one with Bidvest Wits.
