Steenbok bags second master’s degree from international university

Revered former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi scout Walter Steenbok on Tuesday night bagged his second master’s degree in Madrid, Spain.

Steenbok, credited for discovering several top talents in the PSL, recently completed an MBA from the Real Madrid Graduate School – Universidad Europea in Spain.

He received his first master’s degree in sports directorship from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2020.

According to Forbes Magazine, the Real Madrid Graduate School is ranked second among Spain’s top MBA business schools.

The soft-spoken scout said it had taken a lot of hard work and sacrifice to complete the two degrees. Although he still wants to continue studying, he feels he is equipped to contribute immensely to the growth of the local game in any capacity.

“It’s been quite a journey demanding lots of hard work and sacrifice. I’m excited that we’re here today. I feel equipped to make significant contributions to the progress and growth of our football,” Steenbok told FARPost from Spain.

He holds a CAF A and SAFA Pro License and has functioned in several roles in football. The author of The Football Scouting Bible, a book that redefines the art of scouting in the local game, has worked as a coach, scout, analyst and academy manager.

In fact, the man affectionately known as Baresi, boasts a unique record of having coached at all levels in the domestic game, including stints at the now-defunct Benoni Premier United and Basotho Tigers.

Dubbed ‘The Mastermind’ by Pitso Mosimane, he was part of the Sundowns technical team that won the CAF Champions League and three PSL titles.
