Sundowns’ Saavedra vows to comeback stronger next season

Mamelodi Sundowns attacking midfielder Erwin Saavedra is aiming for a strong comeback to the Masandawana setup after recovering from an injury that kept him on the sidelines for most of the second half of the 2021/22 season.

The Bolivian international who joined Masandawana at the beginning of the year has only made four appearances in all competitions. However, he is confident he will be of much help to the team next season and help achieve goals they failed to attain in the just ended season.

“I am only hoping to start the next season in the best manner possible, together we can achieve new objectives that we didn’t get to achieve this season,” Saavedra told the club media.

“The coaches told me that injuries are part of football, and to me this is part of football I have never experienced before and it is new to me.”

Despite making a few appearance for the Brazilians towards the end of the season, the 26-year-old is grateful for bagging the DStv Premiership and the Nedbank Cup.

“First of all, it was a different experience to what I am used to. However, to win two trophies is great even though I got them not in the way I would have preferred, since I was injured. [As a footballer] these are titles which will forever be part of my CV,” he concluded.
