Veteran midfielder extends stay at TS Galaxy

TS Galaxy have confirmed the contract extension of midfielder, Lindokuhle Mbatha.

The veteran footballer has extended his stay with Rockets for another season which will see him at the club until 2023.

Mbatha has also played club football for SA City Pillars, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Platinum Stars and Mamelodi Sundowns.

He made his international debut for South Africa in 2014 during Bafana Bafana’s 3-1 win against Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Mbatha has been a key member of the Mpumalanga-based outfit, having played a total number of 25 games across all competitions last campaign and helped the side to survive the chop on a hectic final day of 2021/22 DStv Premiership matches.

The 37-year-old joined the likes of Bathusi Aubaas, Pogiso Sanoka, Melusi Buthelezi, Given Msimango and Marks Munyai who also signed contract extensions with Galaxy ahead of the new season.

The Newcastle-born footballer will be expected to continue with his stellar displays when the new campaign commences in the midfield with an eye for a pass few of his contemporaries could spot.

Meanwhile, Galaxy lost several key players prior to the 2022/23 DStv Premiership including the Bafana Bafana international Ethan Brooks and their star striker Augustine Kwem who joined AmaZulu FC.

However, one can say that the Rockets have too many transfer issues to solve as they haven’t replaced the players they have let go and time is running out for them to fix every area of their squad.

Head coach Sead Ramovic will need to work out what he needs as a priority before the new season commences on Friday, 5 August. Defence is clearly top of the list, but it’s far from the only area of this squad that needs improving.

But if the German mentor doesn’t act fast, it’s going to be impossible for Galaxy to perform well next term and might find themselves in the relegation zone once again.
