We’ll turn it around, vows Lakay

Lyle Lakay has vowed that Mamelodi Sundowns will overturn the 2-1 defeat against Petro de Luanda in Angola last weekend.

The Brazilians host the Angolan side on Saturday in the second leg of their Caf Champions League quarterfinal at the FNB Stadium and need to overturn the deficit to book a place in the semi-final.

While a 1-0 win would be enough to see them go through, Lakay stressed that they would be gunning for more than one goal.

“We got the away goal we wanted, but the result is not what we wanted. It’s a must-win for us; we are going all out to win on Saturday.

“We have to win, [and] I don’t think one [goal] is enough; we need to score more than one goal,” Lakay said.

The Downs fullback added that there was “always pressure at Sundowns if you look at the way we finished the group stages”. However, he is confident that they will “turn the result around on Saturday”.

But he admitted they must rectify their mistakes at the back, saying the two goals they scored were errant. Lakay hopes the club’s fans will be the wind beneath their wings come Saturday. He believes vociferous fans make the atmosphere feel hostile for any visiting team.
