What it means to play for Banyana Ba Style

Melinda Kgadiete walked straight into the Mamelodi Sundowns starting line-up after joining the club from Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies and she was one of the standout players in the last campaign for Banyana Ba Style.

The soft-spoken attacker was an integral part of the Sundowns Ladies that won a treble last year, including the inaugural Caf Women’s Champions League.

The Mdantsane-born striker has described donning the famous yellow jersey as a “great experience”.

“The club is huge both on and off the pitch,” said Melinda Kgadiete.

“Considering what I have been through, I feel blessed to be handed the opportunity to play for such an illustrious club. The brand is synonymous with excellence and this shows in the way we dominate games and win trophies.

“As a team, we work hard daily because there is a lot that we want to achieve. One of the reasons I joined the team was to win accolades and the club has afforded me that opportunity,” added Melinda Kgadiete.

The 29-year-old striker clinched the Golden Boot at the 2021 Caf Women’s Champions League Cosafa Qualifiers with five goals and scored Sundowns Ladies’ first ever goal in the Champions League in Egypt.

“These last few months have been one massive journey as I featured in several tournaments for Sundowns,” Melinda Kgadiete declared.

“It has been a wonderful learning curve for me and my teammates as we have gained so much knowledge and experience. This will come in handy in boosting our overall understanding of the game.

“It was an incredible feeling being the first to score in all three competitions; Hollywoodbets Super League, Cosafa qualifiers and the Caf Women’s Champions League in Egypt,” concluded the Banyana Banyana international.
