Yanga need three points to seal Tanzanian League title

Tanzania’s Young Africans are on the verge of clinching the Premier League title as they only need three points from their remaining four matches.

Yanga, as they are popularly known, are flourishing on the summit of the log standings with 64 points, a whopping 13 points gap from second-placed arch-rivals Simba SC, who have a game in hand.

Nasreddine Nabi’s side are scheduled to lock horns with Costal Union tonight at home, and a win will see them being crowned the 2021/22 Tanzanian Premier League champions.

“We are lucky that our plans are going according to the plan. From the beginning of the season, we mapped out a plan for player recruitment. For example, last season, we recruited the coach like eight games before the end of the campaign to allow him time to oversee things and assist us in terms of recruitments,” said the club’s administrator Senzo Mbatha in an interview with FARPost a month ago.

“I think we have learned from the previous term that we cannot go to a league with a thin squad. So, I think we have a strong squad to challenge for the league this season. It helped us a lot despite injuries and suspensions.

“The support from our leaders, sponsors and fans is assisting us a lot to do well. And I think the players want it more than anyone. Things are looking very positive.”

The club have since responded well with great character this season as they are yet to lose a single game.

After dominating the division for most of the campaign, Yanga will be looking to reclaim its glory days, having last won the league title back in 2017. But one can be sure they will be hoping to clinch it in for less-stressful circumstances.
