Zamalek president Mansour sentenced to jail

The outspoken and controversial Zamalek president Mortada Mansour has been sentenced to two years in prison for defamation.

The court ruled in favour of Al Ahly chairman Mahmoud El-Khatib, the club announced on Wednesday.

El-Khatib had filed two defamation cases against Mansour for the latter’s remarks in 2021.

According to Kingfut.com, the pair have had a tense relationship in the past with both clubs filing lawsuits to claim the “African Club of the Century” title two years ago.

Mansour, who is also a lawyer now faces two years behind bars in addition to financial sanctions for the remarks he made, as per Ahly’s statement.

“The Economic Court decided to sentence Mortada Mansour to two years in prison for the two cases brought by Mahmoud El-Khatib who was publicly slandered by the former through the media,” said Al Ahly.

“The court today ruled to imprison the defendant for one year in each case, fine him EGP 10,000 and another EGP 10,000 as a temporary compensation for El-Khatib.”
