‘Manqoba Mngqithi has what Kaizer Chiefs need’: Pollen Ndlanya

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Pollen Ndlanya has questioned Arthur Zwane’s pedigree to lead the club to glory and believes Manqoba Mngqithi has the qualities the club needs.

Zwane is in his first season at the helm of Chiefs and has had an inconsistent season.

Chiefs are a distant 21 points behind DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns with five games to go.

On the other hand, Mngqithi is winding up his contract at Sundowns after nine years at the club.

Sundowns have won six successive league titles during his time at the club.

However, he looks set to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June.

Ndlanya, who had three stints with the club, believes Zwane is not experienced enough to bring back the glory days at Chiefs.

“I wouldn’t say [Zwane] is experienced enough. He has been there from the development side and played for Kaizer Chiefs. But in terms of coaching, it’s a question mark,” said Ndlanya.

He was speaking to This Is Football Africa’s YouTube Channel. He added that it was an excellent decision to appoint a club legend to coach the club. However, he insists that 49-year-old Zwane needs an experienced coach next to him.

“We need all the legends to be in coaching positions, so we need Arthur, who is coaching Chiefs, one of the big teams,” added Ndlanya.

“Chiefs is a big team. [But] I must say that you need to help him [Zwane] with someone who has experience because you put someone in the lion’s den.

“Arthur is still young. He shouldn’t be frustrated by losing because Chiefs supporters are impatient. They need wins all the time.

“So you need Arthur to blend in with an experienced coach, which I have someone in mind.”

He singles out Mngqithi as the right man to partner with Zwane in the Amakhosi dugout. Ndlanya believes Mngqithi’s experience at Sundowns under Pitso Mosimane will help.

“I must say that I’m not scared, Manqoba Mngqithi – he’s got that experience. He’s been in this game.

“He has graduated with a lot of coaches, including Pitso Mosimane. With [Golden] Arrows, he was doing very well.

“I think he can help at Kaizer Chiefs to boost the spirit and help Arthur Zwane to be part of that.

“Arthur must learn from the best. We shouldn’t leave him like that… We need to groom our coaches.”

Kaizer Chiefs are unlikely to turn to Mngqithi, though, as they believe Zwane is on the right track.

Mngqithi is on the radar of AmaZulu, whose president Sandile Zungu, has made his admiration for the 51-year-old mentor known.
