Vusumuzi Vilakazi makes relegation playoffs admission

Richards Bay coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi seems to have conceded that the club will have to save their DStv Premiership status through the PSL promotional/relegation playoffs.

The ‘Natal Rich Boys’ played to a 0-0 draw against Polokwane City FC at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in a league tie on Wednesday.

They remain second from bottom on the log with nine points to play for. Richards Bay trails Moroka Swallows and Royal AM by five points and will be hoping the two sides drop points in their remaining matches.

ARE RICHARDS BAY SETTLING FOR A DSTV PREMIERSHIP RELEGATION PLAYOFFS SPOT?

Speaking to the media in Polokwane, Vilakazi says anything besides the playoff spot will be a cherry on top.

“Each and every point counts at this stage of the season. Obviously, considering the fact that we are fighting at least to get to the playoffs, if not, anything that can happen can be a cherry on top,” he said.

“But now the focus should be to focus on one game and we just need to make sure that Cape Town Spurs doesn’t catch us. So I think that point will add value because it was five points now it’s six points,” he said.

“So going to our next game is very important to get something as well.”

VUSUMUZI VILAKAZI WARNS AGAINST COMPLACENCY AHEAD OF ORLANDO PIRATES CLASH

Their next league match will be away to the on-form Orlando Pirates side this Saturday. Vilakazi doesn’t want his players to be complacent with the six-point gap between them and Spurs.

“I wouldn’t say [the six-point gap] gives me comfort. We are still looking at getting three points when we play Pirates,” he added.

“We are going to play other human beings; it’s not as if we are playing robots. Anything can happen, a proper plan against them can help us in terms of making sure that we grind for the results.”
