Hugo Broos on what Bafana Bafana can learn from Springboks

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has given a suggestion on what his troops can learn from the Springboks as they prepare for a friendly match against Ivory Coast on Tuesday, 17 October.

The South African men’s rugby team defeated France 29-28 on Sunday night to book a spot in the World Cup semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana played to a disappointing goalless draw against Eswatini at FNB Stadium last Friday. Broos was evidently unhappy with the poor results as his side failed to find the back of the net against Eswatini to walk away with positive results.

South Africa last tasted a win when they defeated DR Congo 1-0 in a friendly in September prior to being held to a stalemate by Sihlangu Semnikati.

HUGO BROOS DRAWS INSPIRATION FROM SPRINGBOKS

With Bafana aiming to return to winning ways against the AFCON 2024 host nation Ivory Coast, Broos has revealed how his troops can take inspiration from Springboks.

“I think it’s quite easy to turn that [fortunes] around. In the past we have proved that we can do it in different ways,” said Broos.

“The qualities are there, it’s not a question of quality, I think it was just a matter of underestimating the opponents [Eswatini]. We were not ready from the beginning of the game and we had more problems but I’m confident that tomorrow [against Cote d’Ivoire] will be different.

“From the beginning, the players will be more focused on the opponents than they were on Friday.

“… they are professionals and they have to focus in every game.

“I mean you saw yesterday evening the other team of South Africa [Springboks], their passion and the way they play their games, we have a lot to learn.”
