Sly Mosala appointed coach at Eswatini giants

South African coach Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala has been appointed as the new head coach at Eswatini MTN Premier League giants Mbabane Highlanders.

The decision comes after Highlanders parted ways with coach Ernest Mavuso on Wednesday.

The relationship between Mavuso and the club’s hierarchy had turned sour over the last few months.

Mosala is a well-travelled coach who has worked at clubs such as Black Leopards, Free State Stars, Polokwane City, Pretoria Callies, University of Pretoria and more recently Sekhukhune United.

“Yes, it is true, actually he has already arrived at Eswatini so he is likely to start today (Thursday) or tomorrow but he is already in Eswatini,” club spokesperson Mandla Madonsela told FARPost.

“The contractual agreement is still with him and the director for now but we will get that in due course. But our expatiations as you know that Mbabane Highlanders is a big club in Eswatini so definitely we are fighting for titles. As you know we are now in second position on the log and we are looking forward to getting silverware from him.

“That is the mandate that he was given by the director himself (Ally Kgomongwe).”

The club has been criticised for sacking coach Ernest Mavuso who has won seven, drew three and only lost one in 11 matches this season, but Madonsela has explained the decision.

“There were some personal issues involving the director and our former coach but that has been dealt within the camp. We are aware that Mr Mavuso has been getting good results but then the decision was taken by the director but what I can assure you is that the director took all of us in his confidence regarding the decision because he is a man of ambitions,” added Madonsela.

Mbabane Highlanders are the most successful club in Eswatini and are owned by South African businessman, Ally Kgomongwe.
