Tunisia defeat Nigeria to book a spot in the last 8

A goal from Yossef Msakni has earned Tunisia a spot in the Quarterfinals of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) following their 1-0 win over Nigeria at Roumdé Adjia Stadium on Sunday evening.

Lively in possession and closing down rapidly and in numbers when not on the ball, the Super Eagles started in a fashion that was exciting their supporters.

As the half progressed, Tunisia had now been pushed back and couldn’t create an opportunity of note.

Nigeria, who then looked like coming closest to finding an opener luck was not on their side.

It was breathtaking stuff, with the first half hour’s intensity waned slightly but Augustine Eguavoen’s side remained in control of the showdown.

The showpiece went into the interval with a 0-0 scoreline.

A sensational second half from Tunisia earned them a lead in the 47th minute of the contest through Msakni.

The Carthage Eagles continued to take control of their destiny by embracing the chaos, while the Nigerian side had no option but to put on a show.

In the 66th minute, Alexander Iwobi was sent off after picking up a red card, leaving the Super Eagles one man short.

Nigeria spent the majority of the last 20 minutes toiling at the finish line of the opposition side, trying to find an equaliser but it was never meant to be.

In the end, it was Tunisia who progressed to the Quarterfinals of the 2021 African Cup of Nations.
