eSwatini teams cry foul over gate takings

The Premier League teams in eSwatini have expressed their displeasure with the money they receive as gate collections.

It was agreed before the start of the 2021/2022 that teams would share an equal amount from gate collections.

But a number of teams officials, who preferred to remain anonymous have told Swazi Observer about their unhappiness over the meager amount they received after four matches.

“This is not funny, honestly. We last received gate collections after game four and now we are on game 13. They gave us only E13 000. In one of the matches we had about E1 000, only to get such a meager amount. This is a joke,” one of the teams’ officials said.

“My problem is that we do not even know how much money is collected per match. At the end of the day, they only give us ‘peanuts,’ The teams are draining us as running a team is not easy,” another senior official from one of the big clubs said.

There are only two games left before the first round comes to an end.

Mbabane Highlanders are currently at the summit of the log standings with 30 points.

A team that will finish top at the end of the first round will receive E200 000.
