Chiefs crash out of Nedbank Cup
Kaizer Chiefs crashed out of the Nedbank Cup last 32 following their 1-0 defeat to TS Galaxy at FNB Stadium on Saturday night.
Both sides struggled to create any clear chances in the opening stage of the first half.
But the game began to gain momentum as the half went on, with the hosts controlling possession – searching for an opener.
However, Galaxy responded well and forced Brandon Peterson into a couple of saves.
In the last minutes of the first period, Amakhosi created little of note with the Rockets defending in numbers and looking comfortable in what was a slow-paced first 45 despite a few thrills.
At half-time both sides were level and it remained anyone’s game.
In the second stanza, Chiefs were unable to press home their superiority.
The Mpumalanga-based outfit improved in the latter stages and started to threaten the home side, hoping to break the deadlock.
In the 54th minute, Stuart Baxter’s side were made to pay when Augustine Kwem scored an opener to put Galaxy in front.
The Glamour Boys continued with their scrappy second half display with fewer chances being created.
Chiefs tried to find an equaliser but failed to find a way past Galaxy’s goalkeeper.
The final whistle blew, and it ended in tears for the Soweto giants as the Rockets advanced to the Nedbank Cup Round of 16.
