Lakay opens Pyramids account with brace

It was a performance to cherish from the Bafana Bafana striker Fagrie Lakay, who scored Pyramids’ two goals on Sunday at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.

Lakay is off the mark as the Pyramids hitman scored a brace to help the Egyptian side seal a 2-0 win over Zambia’s Zanaco in a Caf Confederations Cup group stage clash.

Lakay’s team maintains their winning start to the group-stage campaign after two matches.

For the side he joined in the January transfer window from DStv Premiership side, Cape Town City, it needed 45 minutes for Lakay to make his impact known in African football, latching onto a ball from Ramadan Sobhi to net his first goal in Pyramids colours.

The 24-year-old forward clinched the victory for his side in the 83rd minute as he made it 2-0, dribbling past the Zanaco shot-stopper following a pleasant pass by Abdallah El-Said that sent him clear on goal.

He walked away with the Man of The Match award for his efforts.

Pyramids are now at the summit of Group A with six points from two games as they also defeated Libya’s Ahli Tripoli 2-1 in their group stage opener match in Cairo last week.

Lakay will be hoping to assist the big-spending club in winning their maiden Africa club title as they lost in the Confed Cup final back in 2020 against Morocco’s RS Berkane and the semifinal a year later to another Moroccan outfit Raja Casablanca.
