What Mayo needs to do to earn a starting berth at CT City
Cape Town City hitman Khanyisa Mayo has proven to be a very effective weapon for Eric Tinkler off the bench.
The attacker has scored two goals and provided an assist in his last four matches in all competitions.
But Mayo has only earned four starts this season, and CT City head coach Tinkler has explained what the 23-year-old needs to do to get a starting berth.
“In terms of Mayo, as a striker, I think he gives us a lot more options. He just needs to get a little bit stronger and hold the ball better,” said Tinkler.
“He has scored two goals in the previous two games, one against Royal AM, but that was in open play, but he was playing as a winger, not as a striker and his other goal came from a setpiece [against Golden Arrows] where he came on to play as a striker.”
Tinkler added: “But slowly but surely, his confidence is growing and getting a lot better at playing that role. For a couple of years, he was playing more in a wide position, especially at Richards Bay, but I think he is most effective as a striker.
“There are certain areas of his game that we are looking for him to improve, but he will get there because he is a hard-working player, he doesn’t drop his head, he keeps working hard in training, and I am sure he will just grow and get stronger and stronger.”
