Mnqgithi reiterates his stance on Pitso’s impact
Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has once again given Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane credit for Sundowns success in recent times.
Following the historic win against Al Ahly in Cairo a fortnight ago, Mngqithi said that even if Ahly had lost the match, it was still a victory for the ex-Sundowns coach as he had laid the foundations at Sundowns during the many years as head coach.
Speaking ahead of the eagerly awaited Group A match at FNB on Saturday evening,
Mngqithi said Mosimane played a huge part for Sundowns to be where they are.
“In as much as I would not want to go back to that statement because I think it was a very clear statement. I regard myself as eloquent that if the message was not clear, I am even surprised,” he said.
“All I was saying was, he was here, he played a very big part in seeing the team what it is and he always says we still play the way he wants us to play and he still believes we will be like this for the next five years because he laid the foundation and so if we win against him it’s because of his work.
“Because he still believes we are doing whatever we are doing because of the foundation he laid and we can not say no to that because it is true he has been here for too many years but the truth of the matter is that when we win he should also celebrate our wins because we are doing what he wants us to do,” added Mngqithi.
