Thobejane explains ‘CR7’ Nedbank Cup celebration
Baroka coach Kgoloko Thobejane has explained his now-famous touchline celebrations during the Nedbank Cup win against TS Galaxy on Sunday.
The charismatic coach was shown doing the ‘Cristiano Ronaldo goal celebration’ after his captain Denwin Farmer converted their third penalty.
Bakgaga won the penalty shoot-out 5-3 to advance to the quarterfinals stage.
Thobejane revealed that he is a fan of the Manchester United and Portugal forward and his celebration.
“The reason for that celebration was that after those guys (TS Galaxy) missed their penalty. I knew that my boys would not disappoint because they have the right mentality. They missed the second one and we went to play the second one and it was very important to score that penalty because the opponents were also meeting,” he said.
“I knew that if Farmer scores it will be the end of the game because four and five are obvious. So that one of Farmer it was like it is the end of the game. That is why you saw me doing the CR7 celebration. I knew it was over.
“I like the boy (Cristiano Ronaldo) and the celebration (laughs). But I like all of them, even (Lionel) Messi, I don’t have a specific favourite, I love players who do magic on the field. So that celebration, it depends on my emotions on the day, we will see,” added Thobejane.
With Baroka being drawn against neighbours Marumo Gallants in the quarterfinals, Thobejane insists it will be war after they beat them in the league earlier this month.
