Tau withdrawn from Bafana squad
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has been dealt with a blow ahead of the upcoming friendly international matches against France and Guinea.
This comes after star striker Percy Tau was forced to withdraw from the squad to a knee injury.
Broos revealed the setback during a media briefing at Dobsonville Stadium, Soweto on Monday morning.
Tau has been replaced by Royal AM striker Victor Letsoalo.
“It has been a stressful week, the last two weeks because of injuries and visa problems,” said Broos.
“So, I was very happy yesterday after the screening by the Dr that I have the 23 players that I wanted from the beginning, except for Percy (Tau). So, Percy will not be there. If gets injured it becomes a little problem with Percy. Ever since I came here in September, he has had problems with his transfer to Al Ahly so he wasn’t ready for the two games that we played.
“He was Injured back in Al Ahly then he wasn’t there for the two games against Ethiopia. Because he was injured, therefore the two last games against Ghana and Zimbabwe, he was not 100% and he returned with an injury, so now again he is injured. So I hope that one day it will stop with him, he is a very important player for us,” added Broos.
“But I am also a little bit afraid that if this goes on, we will have a problem with Percy Tau for June. But let’s hope it will not be like that, but then again, I think he will be out for weeks with a knee problem so this is not a good thing for us.”
