Makola returns from two-month ban

Cape Town City midfielder Mpho Makola is available for selection after serving his two-month suspension, the club’s head coach Eric Tinkler has confirmed.

Makola is in line to mark his return to action when CT City take on Baroka in a DStv Premiership clash at the DHL Stadium on Sunday (17:00).

The 35-year-old was banned from football for two months after pushing assistant referee Cledwin Baloyi following CT City’s MTN8 final defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the penalty shootout in Durban on October 30.

“Mpho Makola comes back from his suspension, so he has also thrown his name in the hat and made my job even more difficult,” said Tinkler.

His ban effectively ended on March 31 as he missed six matches.

Makola, who has made 18 appearances in all competitions this season, returns for Sunday’s league game against Baroka.

“It is an important game for us. We want to try and win three games in a row, something that hasn’t been done at the club for quite a while,” added Tinkler.

“Baroka are fighting for their lives, so it is going to be a tough game.”

The Citizens are fifth on the log standings with eight wins after 21 games.
