Njabulo Ngcobo embraces his new role

Kaizer Chiefs versatile player Njabulo Ngcobo insists there is still room for improvement in his new role as a defensive midfielder, but he is pleased with the progress.

Ngcobo joined Amakhosi at the beginning of the season after being voted the PSL defender of the season at the end of 2020/21.

He first played the defensive midfielder role under Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, a role that Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has also used him at.

“I am just a player who is working hard. Especially learning about the new position,” said Ngcobo.

“I think I am doing okay for now even though there is still room for improvement, so I think I am just a hard working player.”

With football supporters set to return to the stadiums next week, the 27-year-old says he can’t wait to play in front of the Amakhosi faithful for the first time.

“I think for me it’s a good feeling to welcome the supporters back. I think as Kaizer Chiefs we need them the most, it will help us a lot to improve in our game. It’s a nice feeling to have supporters back to the stadiums,” he said.

Chiefs will take on Chippa United in a DStv Premiership match at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium at 17:00 this afternoon.
