Man City to unveil Aguero statue on title anniversary
Manchester City is set to unveil a statue of the former club’s frontman Sergio Aguero on the 10th anniversary of his title-clinching goal.
The Argentine legend scored in injury-time against Queens Park Rangers (QPR) to hand City the Premier League title in 2012.
Aguero, who retired on health grounds in December 2021, remains the club’s all-time goalscorer with 260 goals.
He managed to win five Premier League titles, one FA Cup and six League Cups with the Citizens.
The unveiling is scheduled to take place at the club’s Etihad Stadium on 13 May.
“Manchester City is delighted to announce it will be holding a series of events and activities in Manchester and across the globe to celebrate the tenth anniversary of ‘93:20’,” said the club.
“Arguably one of the greatest comebacks in sporting history, City scored twice in injury time to beat Queens Park Rangers 3-2 and be crowned English top-flight champions for the first time in 44 years.
“As part of the Club’s 93:20 celebrations, Sergio Aguero’s legacy will be honoured by unveiling a statue designed and created by renowned sculptor Andy Scott.”
Aguero’s statue will stand alongside the artist’s statues of Vincent Kompany and David Silva at the stadium.
