Truter lauds “massive team effort”

AmaZulu interim coach Brandon Truter has praised Usuthu players saying winning a game 48 hours after travelling for a good 35 hours is no mean feat.

The Durban outfit arrived from Guinea on Sunday after playing a 1-1 draw with Horoya in Conakry before visiting Baroka in Polokwane for a league match on Wednesday.

Nonetheless, Usuthu picked up their first league win of the year when they edged the Limpopo side 1-0.

“I’m happy it’s a first win for AmaZulu this year. I’m ecstatic. Baroka had their chances; they came strong at us in the first half and threw everything. We managed to come back in the second half and rotated the midfield,” said Truter in a post-match interview.

The ex-Swallows boss credited his boys for winning the match, though they did not have enough time to prepare due to their involvement in the Caf Champions League.

“It was a massive effort from the boys; I have to give all the credit to them. We have soldiers here.

“For us, 35 hours of travel, now I understand why teams take a dip after playing in Champions League and coming back. The amount of travelling and fatigue, having to play in 48 hours.”

The victory took Usuthu to seventh place on the league table as they continued to push towards their goal of finishing in the top four. At the same time, relegation-threatened Baroka remained rock bottom, 16th on the log.
