Records are meant to be broken, says Shalulile

Mamelodi Sundowns hitman Peter Shalulile is four goals shy of matching the record by Collins Mbesuma, who scored 25 league goals 18 years ago.

Shalulile, who is netting goals for fun also became the first player to score 20+ since Siyabonga Nomvethe during the 2011/2012 season. On top of that, he is the first Sundowns player to 21 league goals.

When asked about his historic scoring spree, the humble Shalulile gave all the credit to his teammate at Sundowns, while stating that ‘records are meant to be broken’.

The Namibian striker scored back to back hat-tricks as the Tshwane giants thrashed Golden Arrows 6-0 in a DStv Premiership clash at Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday afternoon.

“I would like to give glory to God first, my teammates, most importantly, the technical team,” Shalulile told SuperSport TV.

“To be honest, my excitement was going to be more had Themba Zwane scored, he’s my Man of the Match, to be honest. He gave an assist, he was on his A-game.

“When I was on the bench I was just looking at my teammates and how they play and it was really something good to watch. The love and the brotherhood, that’s one thing I love a lot here.

“I always tell people, I want the team to do well first and then the rest will follow, with hard work it won’t go wrong that’s why I keep on scoring goals and I thank the fans for coming.

“Records are meant to be broken, they are set by people, so we are all there to break them and it’s possible to get what I want to do, which is score more goals and get cups with the team.”
