Egypt appoint new coach
Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has confirmed the appointment of Ehab Galal as the new national team head coach.
The former Ismaily defender take over the coaching reigns from the departed Portuguese mentor Carlos Queiroz, who was at the helm for just seven months.
The departure of Queiroz was decided a fortnight ago after failing to secure a 2022 World Cup qualification, losing on penalties to Senegal in the play-off.
Galal was in charge of Pyramids FC, having taken over the club in September last year. The side is currently two points behind leaders Al Ahly and Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League.
The 54-year-old manager’s first assignment will be to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to take place in Cote d’Ivoire.
