Moroccan federation open to Ziyech return
Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech could still make a return to the Morocco national team despite announcing his retirement from international football.
Ziyech was a notable absentee from Morocco’s squad for the Africa Cup of nations after a sensational fallout with coach Vahid Halilhodzic.
The 29-year old has not featured for his country since June last year, with Halilhodzic accusing him of faking injuries to avoid international duty.
But FMRF president Fouzi Lekjaa revealed at a board meeting this week that Ziyech is welcome back to the squad, despite his differences with the current manager.
“The national team’s doors are open to all Moroccan players, regardless of their differences,” Lekjaa said.
“Nobody can stop a Moroccan player playing for the national team, whether Ziyech or anyone else.”
Halilhodzic has been critical of Ziyech in recent months, claiming the winger lacks respect.
He also suggested that the international saga involving the winger was over during the World Cup draw.
