Chiefs suffer third successive defeat
Kaizer Chiefs suffered their third successive DStv Premiership defeat against Golden Arrows at Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Amakhosi blew a first half lead as Siboniso Conco and Michael Gumede’s goals earned Arrows a deserved 2-1 victory.
Khama Billiat’s 18th minute goal rewarded a bright start from Arthur Zwane’s men.
This was Billiat’s 97th goal as a Premier Soccer League (PSL) player. He now sits sixth on the list of top PSL goalscorers.
But there was more positivity from the hosts, too. The KwaZulu-Natal side pushed forward in numbers trying their level best to pull one back before the half-time break.
Abafana Bes’thende needed to be more clinical as they continued to grow into the game, however, luck was not on their side at the time.
The half-time whistle blew, with the Glamour Boys leading by 1-0.
The second half started in a similar pattern, with the home side threatening more.
The intensity and pace had dropped drastically from the Soweto giants and their chances were getting further away from the target.
Fifteen minutes into the second stanza, Conco scored an equaliser for Arrows coming off from the bench.
While Chiefs went ballistic, the home side added to the scoreline through Gumede in the 87th minute.
Having taken the lead, Arrows continued to dominate the chances, and momentum never swung back in Chiefs’ favour.
With all being said, Abafana Bes’thende becomes the third team to complete a DStv Premiership double over Chiefs after Royal AM and Stellenbosch FC.
