Bernard Parker hints at a future in coaching

Kaizer Chiefs forward Bernard Parker has hinted at a future in coaching, Amakhosi interim coach Arthur has confirmed.

Parker is at the twilight of his career with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Zwane has revealed that he has had conversations with the veteran striker about his aspirations to venture into coaching. He strongly believes the former Bafana Bafana forward will succeed in the dugout.

“I talk to each and every player, and Bernard knows he won’t play football forever. He has hinted that he wants to take up coaching, and I would advise him to apply for coaching courses. There are opportunities left, right and centre,” Zwane said.

He further revealed that he had advised him to go and do his badges in Ireland where he got his.

“I told him that he can go to Ireland as well. That’s where I got my coaching license, and he can also get help from SAFA, and I think CAF will now allow the coaches because the situation with Covid is getting better.”

Zwane said the two-time league title winner had “never been a troublesome player”, adding that his discipline would set him up for a successful career in coach.

“He’s always been disciplined. If he becomes a coach tomorrow, he will be a good leader.”
Zwane said they would assist Parker with the transition when he finally hangs his boots.
“We will try and help Bernard. If he wants to do coaching, we will most definitely help him. We need more people who are influential, people who can lead by example,” added the 48-year-old mentor.

The 36-year-old, who has spent 10 years at Chiefs after a stint overseas, is seemingly planning for life after football.

He also holds a qualification in marketing obtained from Boston City in 2021.
