Kaizer Chiefs appeared before the Premier Soccer League DC on Tuesday on charges of misconduct in relation to their non-fulfilment of the two fixtures against Golden Arrows and Cape Town City in December.
Chiefs wrote to the league, urging the postponement of the two festive season fixtures citing many Covid-19 cases within their camp. But the PSL declined that request.
The club referred the matter to the SAFA arbitrator, who ruled in their favour.
But the PSL Exco decided on review at the South Gauteng High Court and subsequently succeeded, which paved the way for the PSL DC to proceed with charges of misconduct.
“Kaizer Chiefs Football Club pleads guilty, and I accepted the plea, which resulted in the DC returning a guilty verdict,” announced PSL Prosecutor Advocate Zola Majavu in a statement on Tuesday.
“Kaizer Chiefs Football Club was fined an amount of R 200 000, of which 50% is suspended for a period of 12 months on condition that during the period of suspension, they are not found guilty of the same offence again.
“In fact, they have to pay R 100 000. They were further ordered to pay the costs of the sittings, which costs are to be administratively computed by the League and once so finalised, they will be forwarded to Kaizer Chiefs for onward payments.”
