Mashego singles out 2021/22 season as his best

Cape Town City left-back Terrence Mashego has described the 2021/22 DStv Premiership as his ‘best season’ since he began playing in the South African top-flight. The Bafana Bafana defender has made 27 out of 29 appearances for the Citizens this campaign in the league, netting one goal.

“For me, this is the best season so far since I started playing in the DStv Premiership. Individually, I did great and managed to get a call-up to the national team. The club did great as well; we second on the log, have managed to keep 14 clean sheets, and are unbeaten in the second half of the season,” Mashego told FARPost.

“The mood in the camp is good; the players are motivated. The aim is to break team records like playing in CAF Champions League next season.” The former TS Galaxy player recalled the Kaizer Chiefs match last month as his best this season after netting the Capetonians’ second goal.

“Chiefs game was difficult; I needed to step up and give it my best. We had to collect maximum points and get back to winning ways because we had played Sundowns a few days before and drew the match.” Mashego aims to wrap up the season on a high when they face Stellenbosch FC in the Cape Town derby on Saturday, eyeing revenge after they were defeated 3-0 in the reverse fixture.

“Playing against Stellenbosch is always difficult; we know them very well. We play 5-6 times against them in a season, including in friendly games, but we have to win our last game to secure the Champions League spot. It will be payback time after we were humiliated earlier in the season.”
